I was very moved when I was informed by Amanda, that her daughter Avery had recently had her first open heart surgery at just 21 months old.  Having the privilege of photographing another CHD child last fall through my partnership with ITA (Inspiration through Art), I am familiar with the challenges and heart-wrenching worry that a family must endure when faced with such a serious disease.   Upon our meeting Avery was friendly, upbeat and full of energy!  She has one of the sweetest, crooked smiles; almost devious but too cute to care!  On our session day she wasn’t particularly happy about “performing” for the camera so, we just went with the flow and allowed her as many opportunities as possible to explore the area and play.  It didn’t take too long for her to warm up to me and share a few “high-five’s” and an occasional hug.  Amazingly, this little girl is full of life, spirit, energy and love!  She is so lucky to have two amazing parents in Amanda and Doug, who are warm, friendly and possess a beautiful nature.  It is unclear what may lie ahead for her at this time, but hopefully, she will continue on with strength and remain in great health!  I consider myself very blessed to have met this family.   In Avery’s honor I continue to commit myself to spreading the word about congenital heart disease and helping to support Michigan Hearts of Hope.   To learn more about congenital heart disease in children, or find ways to help, visit: http://www.heartsofhopemi.org/
