This year’s Detroit Tour de Cure was a wonderful success! It was, once again, a pleasure to photograph the event and to join the staff and riders for such an important cause. The team at Washtenaw Community College did a terrific job hosting and the weather held out, with a nice mix of sun and soft clouds. Over 200 riders came together to help raise over $138,000 that will help send kids to diabetes camp, fund research, and coordinate advocacy programs. Everyone’s contributions helped make this one of the best events yet!
The Tour de Cure is the signature fundraising event of the American Diabetes Association and the nation’s largest diabetes cycling event, with over 50,000 participants across the country. Nearly 30 million battle diabetes every day and every 23 seconds someone new is diagnosed. In addition to seeing so many returning riders, I had the pleasure of meeting many new attendees, including Mary (our faithful finish-line cheerleader) and Ella, who was visiting with her beautiful black lab, Hudson. Ella was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 3 and recently received Hudson as her working dog.
I am grateful for my partnership with the ADA and appreciate the opportunity to continue to help support their mission. Congratulations to all of the promoters, ADA volunteers, vendors, sponsors and other volunteers who helped to make this special day so successful!
